What Color is Your Fat?

Through our imperfections as human beings, many choose to create assumptions about individuals based upon the color of their skin. We have work to do in that regard. We do, and will always live in an evil world. We cannot expect perfection of ourselves, nor in the world in which we live. Racial injustice is unacceptable. Perhaps instead of the color of your skin, we should be more concerned with the color of your fat! You heard me right, fat can be either brown or white, and it’s color says a great deal about your health.

Belly fat. It seems like the toughest to get rid of, right? I am working with a client who has made remarkable progress in the past 6 months. He is now at his ideal weight and he virtually has no fat on his entire body, except for the stubborn midsection. We are now working to identify supplements, exercises, and daily practices to target the belly fat.

When describing fat, there are two variations: brown and white.

BROWN FAT = GOOD

Brown fat’s role is to burn calories and provide heat for the body. Having more brown fat in your body has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and improve blood pressure.

WHITE FAT = BAD

Not ALL white fat is bad. Everyone has some. The subtitle should really state, “Too Much White Fat = BAD.” Having too much white fat is when major problems arise, like greater risk for heart attacks, elevated blood pressure, insulin resistance, and obesity.
